Australian Waves No. 12 was the first magazine I ever bought, some time in 1985, when the highest level of surfing was the IPS world tour, and a deck grip pack was worth ‘$11’.
There are 28 ads throughout the whole mag, including for the Commonwealth Bank, AWA Televisions (?), and Jim Beam.
The features include stories on Curren, some trip through Polynesia, and Occy’s win at the OP Pro at Huntington. Profiled are Glen Winton, Dave Parmenter, who apparently ‘exudes menace from take-off to pullout’, and Nat ‘In the beginning there was an animal’ Young. Who would have thought?
